Besides not being with my family, one of the saddest parts of not going home for Thanksgiving is how desperately I miss best friend Allison. Al is one of my dearest friends in the world and when I think about how long we have known each other, well, I can’t remember a time when we weren’t friends.

Allison is my sister in every sense of the word. We have cried together and laughed together and I can’t imagine how much different my life would be with out her.

At this point in our lives, Al and I have nothing in common but our love for each other. She is married with a beautiful baby girl, living in our home town and perfectly loving every minute of it. Me, not so much. But it wasn’t very long ago that our 14 year old selves were driving a little red Eagle Talon around town, causing trouble and giving our mothers headaches. We know each others secrets and each others dreams and each others memories of a past life.

I don’t know how those two girls grew up into the people we are today or how we maintained that bond through years of being thousands of miles from each other. But I know I can’t imagine my life without that girl and hope I never have to.
