I loved this song. Still do apparently. I will always think of this as the song that opened Season 2 of Dawson’s Creek, after Joey and Dawson had their first kiss. My teenage self was giddy with the excitement.
The second memory I have is of this lovely band. I was working at the Top 40 radio station for my senior year communication’s internship, which basically involved me going to promotion events and giving away free shit. Until we had “SweetStock” which was this insane festival that had, I swear to you, Jordan Knight, Coolio, B*Witched, Joey McIntyre, Blessid Union of Souls, ten other bands you have never heard of again, Fastball and the headliners were NSync. I was thrilled to get to meet all these horrid bands I loved. Give me a break, I was 4 days shy of my 18th birthday.
Anyway, the limo that was supposed to pickup Fastball at the airport and drive them to the venue never picked them up. I believe I remember it having to do with Edwin McCain throwing some kind of hissy fit. Anyway, being the bitch intern, had to jump in the station’s SUV and head to the airport to get Fastball at the airport. Which I was psyched about. Until the lit up in the car. So, here I am, naive 17 year old, driving a band that I was kind of obsessed with, in a giant truck that isn’t mine, with them smoking pot in the back of the truck. I had barely ever even seen pot at this point, nevermind been in the car with someone smoking it. I was like, uh… I will try not to get pulled over. That was the intellegent thing I said to them. They enjoyed telling everyone that story at the afterparty later that night. Which is an event filled with even more ridiculous stories of young naive Caroline out of her element.
So, you heard it here. Fastball smoked a lot of pot. I am sure you have been wondering that all these years.
Out of My Head
FastballMary had Pandora running while we were working tonight, and this song came on. I hadn’t heard it in YEARS, and it brought back a load of old memories. It’s sort of a fun little song, isn’t it?
One hit wonder, though, I suppose.
I loved this song. Still do apparently. I will always think...this as the song that opened...
Dawson’s Creek and misjudged high school decisions....always liked Fastball. What the fuck...
